What are three goals that you want to achieve this academic year?

 Although I have many goals that I'd like to accomplish, there are three in particular that I'd want to complete. The first of which includes getting straight A's. This is important to me because I would like to keep my 4.0 unweighted GPA ahead of college. The second goal I'd want to achieve is getting a 36 on my ACT. Even though this would be difficult, I think I can do it. The last goal I'd like to accomplish is to do well on my AP Exams. I hope to get a 5 to exempt any college classes I can.

Prompt Response:  When I was being interviewed for one of the positions I'm currently in, I made the roles I had with other organizations seem to be better than they were. Even though I wasn't lying, I certainly exaggerated my responsibilities and the expectations of my role. I did this simply because I really wanted to get the job. I did end up getting it for many reasons, but I believe one was the exaggeration on my resume and in my interview.  Summary: Today we learned about rhetorical devices. Reflection:  Today was the first day back from fall break. We took notes on rhetorical devices and did exercises to strengthen our understanding of writing the specific devices (hyperbole and understatement).

Thursday Prompt: Think about a speech, song, or message that has inspired or motivated you. How did the speaker or writer use language to make an impact? Connect your experience to at least one rhetorical device you identified in Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Prompt Response:  "Mediocre people don't like high performers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - Nick Saban. This is a quote that I think about often when I think about who I should be around. In his speech about who he wants on his "bus" in life, he states that if the people you are around don't have the same principles as you or the same high standards as you, you will never be successful. He compares it to the metaphor of being on a bus in spring camp for football. The bus that he is referring to is your pathway in life, and the people that stand in the way and block the path are the same people that don't share the same goals and standards that you set for yourself. This connects to Dr. King's I Have a Dream speech because of the similar use of metaphors. Wednesday Prompt: After reviewing the feedback on your argument essay, identify one thing you did well and one area you need to improve. Explain what you will do differently the next time you write an AP Lang argument essay.

Prompt Response:  One thing I did well was setting up my argument and writing my thesis. I got full points on the first section of the rubric because I stated my point on the topic, made it clear, and then gave my reasons. One thing I can improve is keeping my evidence related to the topic and not veering off. For example, I started talking about Twitch streamers and the revenue influencers make, which wasn't part of the topic of selfies becoming an exhibition. In the future, I will use the method we learned (with the bubbles and three topics) to help gather my evidence and keep it related to the claim. Summary: I am appreciative for the help Mr. Rease gave me on my essay, and I am happy that I got a 5/6. Reflection:  This week in class, we are working on analyzing poems. We have looked at the feedback on our essays and have worked to improve our scores in the future.
